Our Thoughts to the Family of Dick Kauffman

From his obituary:

Dick L. Kauffman, 77, of Willow Street, passed away on Sept. 10, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster Co. surrounded by his loving family. His smile and humor will be greatly missed, but we celebrate his life now in heaven.

Born and raised in Willow Street, Dick was the son of Ralph Kauffman Sr. and Cleo (Cochran) Kauffman. He was married to Loretta (Rankin) Kauffman for 54 years.

Dick will be lovingly missed by: his wife Loretta, his 2 daughters, Sharon, wife of Donald Neff, Terry, wife of Curt Stumpf, and a son Rick, husband of Kimberly; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Connie.

Dick served in the Army from 1953-55 and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by Holsum Bread for 19 years and later worked for Penn Manor School District, retiring in 1994. Never one to sit back and relax, Dick then began working for the Willow Street Car Wash and soon became their #1 employee.

He was also a lifetime member of Millersville VFW and Pequea Valley Sportsmen Assoc. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden and yard, and going to the family’s bay cottage. He was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed playing “Horsie-pepper” with his friends at the mountains. He could always be found at the Willow Street Diner drinking coffee with his buddies.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Providence Church of God, 269 Cinder Road, New Providence, PA with the Rev. Susan D. Sliker officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Marticville United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Thoughts and Prayers to the Family of William V. Ream

The Post is saddened by the loss of long-time member Bill Ream this past Wednesday. From his obituary:

William V. Ream, 69, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Harrisburg Hospital. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Victor William and Anna DePue Ream. He and his wife, Dorothy Haines Ream, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in April.

Bill was employed in mechanical maintenance for Safe Hardware, Alumax, Playskool, and Anderson Pretzel Bakery; and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Lions Club, the North American Hunting Club, Millersville VFW and the Mount Joy American Legion. Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Robin Parker, wife of Donald R. Parker Jr., of Lancaster, and sons Erik Ream, husband of Janet, of Penobscot, Maine, and Victor Allen Ream, husband of Amie, of Lancaster; a sister, Ardella Knouff, of Lancaster, and a brother, Robert Ream, of East Petersburg. He is also survived by grandchildren Patrick and Clayton Parker, Brian and Erika Ream, 2 great-grandchildren Aubriannah Francis and Hunter Ream. He was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Batts.

Remembering Jay B. Hewes

Post member Jay B. Hewes passed away Wednesday, May 12th. From the Lancaster Newspaper:

Jay B. Hewes, 77, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County in Mount Joy. He was born in Lancaster, the son of the late John and Pearl (Longenecker) Hewes. He was married to Suzuko ‘Sue’ Banno Hewes for the past 52 years. He was a retired mechanic for the U.S. Air Force, where he worked for 20 years. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Wars having attained the rank of Captain. Jay was a member of the Millersville VFW, Commercial Travelers Club, and was a graduate of the Milton Hershey School. He is survived by his wife Sue, his sons John Banno of Tokyo, Japan, Patrick B. married to Dawn Hewes of Lancaster, and 3 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Thomas Hewes, Sr.

FUNERAL SERVICES will be held Monday May 17, 2010 at 11 AM at Grace Brethren Church of Greater Lancaster, 911 Rohrerstown Road, Lancaster, with Pastor Galen W. Wiley officiating. VIEWING will be at the church on Monday from 10 to 11AM. Burial will be in the Riverview Burial Park with military honors provided by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and Mountville VFW. Remembering Carl T. Yarnell

Life member Carl T. Yarnell passed away this past Sunday. From the Lancaster Newspapers:

Carl Terrell Yarnell, age 87, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mt. Joy, PA.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Isaiah H. and Clara Nagle Yarnell. He and his wife, Alice E. Coble Yarnell, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last Sept. 22, 2009.

Carl was employed for 34 years with Thompson “60” Case Corporation as a machine operator.

He served in the U. S. Army during WW II in the European Theater rising to the rank of Corporal. He received the Purple Heart, the European Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

Among his memberships were being a life member of VFW Millersville Post #7294; the American Legion Lititz Post #56 and the Second Indian Head Division Association.

He enjoyed many years of fishing for rockfish and sea trout on the Delaware and Chesapeake with his wife, Alice, and traveling. He was a devoted family man.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Carl T., Jr., husband of Pamela Yarnell, Washington Boro; a daughter, Carol Louise Wiker, Strasburg; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Carl’s Life Celebration Funeral service at the Funeral Home of Fred F. Groff, Inc., 234 W. Orange St., Lancaster, PA, on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Moses Baker officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Burial Park. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Please omit flowers. Remembering Past Commander Jack O. Shoff

Past Commander and Past Quartermaster Jack Shoff passed away this week after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Jack served the post in a number of positions over the years and will be missed.

Jack O. Shoff, 83, of Millersville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at home following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born June 12, 1926, in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Preston P. and Eva F. (Geisler) Shoff. He was married to the late Margaret J. (Colvin) Shoff for over 58 years before her death in August 2009.

A Veteran of WWII, Jack proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands on March 17, 1945. Jack continued his military service volunteering for three tours with the Sea Going Cowboys replenishing Europe’s livestock. He was a lifetime member, Board of Director Past Post Commander of the Millersville/Manor VFW Post #7294. As Quarter Master, Jack was responsible for the delivery and set up of hospital equipment to the infirmed and was a volunteer for the Millersville area Meals on Wheels. Jack was also a member American Legion, Post #34, Lancaster.

Jack was a lineman for PPL for 40 years before retiring in 1986. After retirement, Mr. Shoff worked for Scheid Produce, Inc. in Millersville. He enjoyed spending time at his second home at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware where everyone was welcome. Another passion of Jack’s was Native American Indian Education and Causes through financial contributions.

He is survived by a son, Jeff Shoff, fiancé of Gail Smith, of Lancaster; three daughters, Colleen Rankin, of Conestoga, Jacqueline, wife of Fred Harvey, of Lancaster and Sue, wife of Ron Kirchner, of Willow Street; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother Eugene C. Shoff, husband of Nellie L., of Ronks, as well as his nieces, nephews, extended family and caring friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Jack’s caregivers and Hospice of Lancaster County.

Funeral Services will be held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, Exclusive Provider of Veterans Funeral Care, 320 Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Millersville, PA 17551, 717-872-2266 on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 10 AM. Interment will be in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, Millersville, PA with Military Honors. Friends may view at Scheid’s on Wednesday between 9 and 10 AM. Kindly omit flowers.
